I've had them last upwards of 5 years of extremely heavy use while duck hunting, metal detecting and fishing.Duck Bay Camouflage Bucket Hunting Cap Hat Size Medium Like New! Has ear flaps. The are expensive, but they're totally worth it. You can wear them with shorts on 80 degree days or wear some insulated coveralls underneath and they are good on the coldest of hunts. Much, much lighter, more comfortable and more versatile than neoprene. The bigger issue may be finding unfrozen water that I can wade in.įor waders I highly recommend Cabela's Dryplus bootfoot breathables. Some dry suit gloves and a knit hat and I should be good down to below freezing. I plan on wearing a pair of wool socks and then Muck Boots over the top of the suit instead of wader boots. I've tried it on for a few and as warm as it is I'm a bit worried about overheating! I found an unused milsurp Mustang MSD900 on Ebay for a steal and will be trying it out shortly.
OBN's recommendation on the drysuits convinced me to pick up one as well. I normally wear waist waders, but need to get deeper.

I found a Mustang Mac 200 suit for $150 slightly used (costs $1,500+ new). I took OBN's advice and went to ebay and bought an immersion/survival suit. Sorry for the long windedness, any further questions/comments-no problems. I believe on Amazon, the ones I ordered were $58, but you do have to buy an oversized pair of wading boots to go with them (mine were $35). I have used them in the ocean once so far, and ponds/lakes maybe 6-8 times. Fits me well (ok, that's embarrassing) easy enough to put on, and take off in beach parking lots. Being short and husky (I think that's the politically correct way of saying fat), I ordered the mens short and stout model. The waders have something like 8-12 different sizes. I had posted questions about gauntlets to keep my hands/arms dry, and gotten recommendations, but after the water recovery fiasco of last weekend, not sure I would try to recover targets deeper than my knees right now, keeping my hands/arms relatively dry. OK, back to the question, I have a pair of Caddis Stocking foot, neoprene waders. I think it took me close to an hour to recover the zincoln. I'm not under the best of circumstances a graceful person, anyone watching me must have busted a gut laughing.
I used my waders, and found a target in knee/thigh deep water. He got a gold ring, I got a lot of small pieces of lobster traps LOL. So I met up with another detectorist at Jenness Beach, in Rye NH.

Shortly after Thanksgiving, I picked up a used Dual Field, thought I would learn how to hunt with a Pulse (that's been a mixed bag, but that's another story). So far I mostly use my waders in the winter time for wind protection, than going in the water.
